Most people grew up doing jigsaw puzzles. They're fun, easy to do as a group, and are ideal for rainy days. But puzzles are more than a toy -, are an excellent introduction, a childhood friend for the development of life skills. How so? Consider what "life skills" actually are. Some of the great: Communication, interaction, the ability to delegate, problem solving, breaking large tasks into smaller groups, confidence and self esteem. Puzzles can help develop each of these. Communication and interaction – Work on a puzzle with other communication required.
Different children seeking different pieces, such as ones with a bit of blue sky, or make the grass green. Speaking of parts, and pass them to another, helps children learn to communicate their needs (for example, need a blue – Have you seen any?). It also helps them learn to interact socially – no one wants to play with a puzzle as greedy or throwing the pieces around. Office – can solve the puzzle section by section rather than piece by piece to the puzzle because the images are mostly composed of several sections. A good example is the Melissa & Doug puzzles, as one of the largest piece 200. It could be an ocean scene, so there are a lot of blue sea, and all purple for the octopus. Different sections of shape and color, it is easy puzzle pieces to mix everything together, and the puzzle just give up. But, by breaking the task and the delegation so that each child works on a different section (makes the octopus while I'm the starfish, okay?) Children learn that it is easy and fun to work together.
Troubleshooting – Some puzzles are designed especially for its educational value, such as Melissa & Doug, and any other brands. These educational puzzles are an excellent introduction to problem solving, as they require to break a large task into smaller tasks. A puzzle requires many skills, like learning to recognize certain forms, and find what fits with what. In young children, this is achieved mostly by trial and error, which is valid, if ineffective, problem-solving technique. In older children, however, the puzzle pieces present the opportunity to delve into the thought, as the identification of what is needed, and developing the next logical step. Puzzles can consider what is needed for each piece (hmm, has two holes, so you must need a piece with two ends), then set about finding it. Instead of seeing a big pile of puzzle pieces and feel frustrated, children learn to start small. It is difficult to build a puzzle from scratch, so that children learn early to start with the edge pieces, thereby outlining the problem. Sorting through the pieces could then reveal a large amount of pink for a flower, or red for a sailboat.
Children solve the problem first resolution of the smaller images until they are closer to the big picture.confidence and self esteem – Children of all ages, including puzzles, but can be a challenge. Complete success is an achievement for a child and a good example of reward for effort. Being able to say: "Look, Mom, I did" and receive the praise is an important element in building confidence and self-esteem.Puzzles are an important part of child development. Working on challenging puzzles and high quality one, with a group, or a father, is an excellent way to help children develop strong life skills.
